My small granny has been a gift to me every day of my life.
But today is extra special.
Today, I got a copy of her marriage certificate from groireland.ie
The certificate tells me that Catherine Hurley, Tonevane married Timothy Sheehan, Fenit on Sept. 24th 1938 in St. John's RC Church, Tralee.
It tells me that she worked as a Domestic Servant and that both her father and father-in-law were named Timothy.
The priest was Gerard Dillon and her witnesses were Thomas Murphy and Helen Daly.
The certificate also states that her father-in-law, Timothy Sheehan (Senior) was deceased at the time of her marriage.
Holding her marriage certificate in my hands brings her very close to me today as I look at her gentle smile in her marriage photograph.
Certificates of Births, Marriages and Deaths in Ireland from 1920, are available online at groireland.ie
