I love to ask people 'What does happiness mean for you?'
Most people have never thought about this question.
People often start with 'the whens.'
When I retire
When I have the mortgage paid
When the children are set up in life.
But truthfully, happiness doesn't live there.
Happiness lives in a moment.
Happiness lives in a beautiful sunrise or sundown.
Happiness lives in the sweet smell of a cake baking in the oven.
Happiness lives in the comforting hug of your best friend.
Happiness lives in that moment when you look around a table at those you love breaking bread together.
Happiness lives in the simple things.
But this is what I have learned about happiness.
We have to pay attention.
Otherwise we miss it.
I will not 'see' the beautiful sunset if I am thinking about the dishes that I haven't done.
I will not enjoy the comforting hug of my friend if I am thinking about how long it is since she came to see me.
I have to Be Right here, Right now
It takes practise to do this.
It takes support to do this.
So that's why I wrote the Happiness Book a daily guide to help you pay attention to the happy moments of your life...to help you answer the question 'what does happiness mean for me?'
