Clooncraff, Kilteevan, Co. Roscommon
Of the 14 distinct families listed in the 1901 Census for the townland of Clooncraff, DED Mote, only 3 do not have a Brennan as a parent!
Catherine Nolan Gillooley age 57, the widow of Patrick Gillooly is one exception. Patrick Gillooley of Carnbane appears to have married into the farm of Michael Nolan & Julia Tracy of Clooncraff, Catherine's parents in 1871. Indeed, Michael Nolan is listed as a tenant of Admiral George Crofton in Clooncraff in 1857.
John Gilleran, another exception, married Anne Fox in 1872. But just to make the research lively, Anne Fox was the daughter of Michael Fox and Margaret Brennan so there is still a Brennan connection. And I almost forgot to mention that John Gilleran is another of my great great grandfathers!
Thomas Brady & Catherine Brennan m1865. James Brady took over the farm in 1921.
John Gilleran & Anne Fox m1872. Their son Michael Gilleran took over the farm about 1919.
Luke Brennan unmarried
Hugh Brennan c1861-1944 (son of Michael Brennan) wife Ellen Farrell m1885
Edward Garrick widower, (dec. wife Catherine Brennan d 9/Jul/1889) Patrick Garrick took over the farm in 1922.
William Brennan 1833-1918, son of Hugh Brennan c1795-1890 & Margaret Stanton, wife Maria Geraghty m1876 Knockcroghery. William's son Hugh Brennan took over the farm in 1919.
Mary A Gilleran Brennan widow of Thomas Brennan (son of Luke Brennan) m1867, Thomas Brennan d 14/Dec/1885, attended by John Gilleran, brother-in-law.
Michael Brennan wife Anne Brennan as per bapt. of son James 1880
Patrick Brennan c1839-1924 (son of Daniel Brennan), second wife Ellen/Eleanor Kain m1884, first wife Mary Brennan. Daniel Brennan took over the farm in 1916.
Thomas Murray wife Bridget Connaughton. Michael Murray took over the land abt. 1934.
Bridget Tiernan Brennan widow of James Brennan (son of John or Owen Brennan) m1879, James Brennan d 2/Nov/1894, attended by wife Bridget. John Brennan took over the farm in 1918.
John Fox wife Catherine Brennan, (dau. of John Brennan) m 1868 Roscommon Church Record

John Gilleran
The 1911 Census gives us a wonderful picture of my Gilleran great and great great grandparents.
My great grandparents, Michael Gilleran and Ellen Beirne and their five children were living with Michael's parents, John Gilleran and Anne Fox.
John Gilleran of Roadwalk and Anne Fox of Clooncraff (age 18) married in Roscommon RC Church in 1872. The Civil registration record gives only their fathers' names but the Church marriage record transcription (rootsireland) records the following;
Parents of John Gilleran, Patrick Gilleran and Mary Hanly
Parents of Anne Fox, Michael Fox and Margaret Brennan .
John Gilleran was baptised on Feb. 28 1845. His godparents were James Hambrogue and Margaret Brennan. (rootsireland) I have found baptisms for 6 siblings,
Thomas 1833
Patrick 1835
Margaret 1837
James 1840
Michael 1842
William 1847
John Gilleran died in 1920, in the company of his daughter-in-law Ellen.
The 1911 Census gives Anne Fox Gilleran as the mother of 4 children. Baptism record transcripts give us;
Mary Ann born 1873
Michael born 1874
Mary Ann born 1875
Patrick born 1877.
Anne died in 1925 of old age (75 acc. to the Death Record) in the company of her daughter-in-law Ellen.
Ellen Beirne Gilleran was the daughter of Malachy Beirne of Ballyglass, Rahara, Co. Roscommon & Ann Donnelly.
In 1857, Griffith's Valuation records Malachi Byrne as a tenant of Robert H Gunning in Ballyglass, Rahara.
Malachy Byrne married Ann Donnelly in 1854 in Knockcroghery.
Patrick 1855
Brigid 1864
Martin 1867
Timothy 1870
Ellen & Margaret her twin were born in 1873.

Thomas Brady, Clooncraff, Kilteevan 1901
In the 1901 Census Thomas Brady (64) was living with his wife Catherine (60) and children , Lizzie (17) and James (13) in Clooncraff, Kilteevan.
Thomas Brady (27) of Cloontuskert married Catherine Brennan (19) of Kilteevan on January 16th 1865.
Their witnesses were James Fox and Catherine Murray and these names match on both the Church Marriage record and the Civil Marriage record transcribed by rootsireland.
In the Church record Thomas parents are recorded as Darby (a dimunitive of Jeremiah) and Catherine Brady.
Catherine's parents are recorded in the Church record as Patrick and Sarah Brennan.
But here is where the fun begins Catherine's father is recorded as Michael Brennan in the Civil Marriage record!
A search of Brennan records (and they are many) yielded only one Brennan married to a Sarah and that was Patrick Brennan who was married to Sarah Kileen/Killian c1834. Patrick and Sarah had a daughter Catherine baptised in 1844. Given this I am inclined to think that Catherine Brennan Brady's father was Patrick Brennan, the husband of Sarah Killian/Kileen.
Thomas Brady and Catherine Brennan had 10 children. All of the children are recorded as born in Clooncraff.
Mary 1865
Eleanor 1867
Catherine 1869
Patrick 1872
Michael 1874
Thomas 1876
Eleanor Ann/ Ellen Ann 1878
John 1880
Elizabeth 1883
James 1889
Unlike many families at this time, all of the Brady children can be found in the Civil Registration Index.
By 1911, according to the Census, Thomas had died and Catherine was living with her youngest son James. The original record appears to have 10 written as the number of children born to Catherine and 8 as the number of living children but the numbers are very faint and are not recorded on the transcript.
Thomas Brady died in 1903. See below for link to Death Certificate. His son Michael is recorded as the informant. Catherine Brady died in 1918.
In 1921. James Brady of Clooncraff married Margaret Naughton of Lecarrow in Knockcroghery. Their witnesses were Patrick Brennan and Mary Ellen Mee.
