Dr. Georgina Revington 1889-c1961

In August 1913, the Irish American Weekly published this announcement about Dr. Georgina Revington of Tralee.

The 1901 Census, gives a lovely snapshot of Georgina, aged 12 living with her father John and mother Emma Letitia, and her brother John and sister Elise, Princes Quay, Tralee. Georgina's governess was Elizabeth Edith Switzer. Also present was Kate Stack, their domestic servant who was from Barrons, Co. Kerry.
The Revington family were members of the Church of Ireland. John Revington and Emma Letitia White married in the Methodist Centenary Church in Stephen's Green, Dublin on Sept. 7 1886. John's father was Joseph Revington, a Merchant and Emma's father was John White, a Printer.
In 1910 Georgina Revington won the Large Gold Medal for Natural Science at Trinity College Dublin.
By 1911, the family had moved to Clonalour, Tralee and Georgina is recorded as a medical student at Trinity College, Dublin. Ethel Mary Warren of Kilkenny and Charlotte Anna Cheighton of Tyrone are also recorded as Business Apprentices.
In 1915, Dr. Georgina Revington married Guy Singleton Darling of Belfast, an Insurance Agent in St. John's (C of I) Tralee.
Sadly Guy Darling died in February of the following year, aged 29, in Lurgan. His father, Dr. J Singleton Darling was present at his death.

I would love to know if Dr. Revington was Tralee's first woman doctor? If you have further information about her please post in the comments box below.

Hi Martine. I am Georgina Revington’s great niece. Her brother Thomas Le Blanc Revington, a veterinarian, was my grandfather. I’d be interested in corresponding with you on the family history.

Hello Maureen.
I am one of the (recently somewhat diminished) Revingtons still living in Kerry. I am working on the presumption that you are Maureen Farrow in Sydney and I thank you for making the attempt to sort out where we all hang together.
I and my older brother Joe would thus coincide at our grandfather (Joseph's) level with your predecessor's point. Joseph was an uncle of Thomas, your own grandfather, as I understand the way the skeleton develops.
Unfortunately, we lost Joe (my brother) on April 22 last, which is unfortunate because it was he that had most of the chasing around the global Revington grouping in recent years following significant work by Michael Revington who lived in Perth.
You may not be aware that you lost another cousin, Billy, back in August, and if so, I am sorry to have to convey this to you.
I do have to say, having spoken to Joe on a number of occasions, we Revingtons appear to have been a somewhat querulous lot and for a very long time, it had been said that Henry (Harry) Revington had been killed in a bar fight in South Africa.
In fact, as you are no doubt well aware, this was not the case; he seems to have run offside with some of the others in the family (and I suspect Thomas' father Jack [John] was the principal one with his support for the Boers.
It was not until my own mother died that I discovered that I had had a paternal aunt too. I had grown up with the belief that she had left Ireland for the UK (which did happen) but that she had passed away there.
In fact, she had married in England and it was Joe (my brother) who found the family she raised.
There is quite a lot in this that you may, or may not be aware, but I do firmly believe that we all should put the differences that our forefathers and mothers had and try to resolve a comprehensive account of the various wings and finish the work that Michael spent so much time and effort upon.

I shan't be nominating 2021 at the Greatest Year of All Time, I'm afraid, but I hope we can draw a few more of the strands we share in the future.

Georgina had a long involvement with Zambia, where she went after marrying for the second time. Her 2nd husband, Walter Wilfrid R Fisher, was a Brethren missionary there.

I can send you a list of the first five Kerry-born women doctors (those who qualified before the first world war). Could you also confirm when and where you think she died?.
