A group of genealogists came together and mapped out the townlands. Thank you to each and every one of you! There was 87 Civil Parishes (taxation districts) in County Kerry. Please note that Civil Parishes and Church Parishes do not neccessarily share the same boundaries although they may share the same name.
Each Civil Parish comprised a number of townlands. The goal of everyone tracing their Irish/Kerry roots is to identify the townland of origin of their ancestors. A townland is a rural area sometimes comprising only a few acres. It usually does not contain a village. Most Irish towns contain several townlands.
