In 1901, there was 155,238 people living in Co. Kerry who had been born in that county. However, it may surprise you to know that there was 3,215 Kerry-born people living in Cork. Among those was Kate Devane who kindly included her place of birth, Barrow (Ballynahaglish) in her 1901 Census return. It would be great to know how Kate got her position with the Parkhills, a Methodist couple who were born in Belfast. Robert Gilmore Parkhill was a wholesale drapery manager and the family lived at Wellesly Terrace, North East Ward, Cork City.
Kate was baptised on 5 Jul. 1882 in Ardfert, the daughter of Daniel Devane and Ellen Sheahan. Daniel & Ellen married in 1869.
In 1911, Kate Devane was home again with her family in Barrow.
In 1913, Kate Devane married William Parker in Ardfert. Their daughter Margaret's date of birth was recorded as 19 Feb. 1914. Their daughter Ellen's date of birth was recorded as 1 July 1917, Taulaght.
