Find out if anyone in your extended family has a collection of Memorial Cards. These were printed by families following the death of a loved one. Some of them give the place of origin of the person who died. They were commonly placed in prayer books and people prayed for the repose of the soul.
Do not ignore the ones that do not contain your family name as the cards were also sent to neighbours and friends. One of those cards may give you a lead on the place of origin of your own ancestor.
