The records for The Glen National School, St. Finan's Bay, Ballinskelligs transcribed by Patrick O'Leary in 1970, were generously donated by him in Feb. 2014.
The Glen National School is one of the oldest National Schools in Kerry.
The records include; Boys 1867-1957 (564) and Girls 1867-1926 (449).
The details included are;
Name of Child
Age at school entry
Home Townland name
Occupation of Father.
Reading through the townland names, the pupils came from the Civil Parishes of Killemlagh and Prior.
In some cases, other details are included such as date of death, cause of death or local names used to differentiate one family of the same name from another.
Two of the entries particularly caught my eye.
In 1908, Ann O'Leary from Cools, came to school, her father's occupation is listed as Public School, New York.
In 1924, Mary Moriarty from Killabuonia came to school and her father is listed as a Railway Worker in Chicago.
