In the 1870 US Federal Census Josephine was living in the household of Margaret Campbell age 45 from Ireland. Other members of the household were Sarah Campbell, born in Alabama (daughter of Margaret?) James Johnson, a painter, also born in Ireland, Mary White, a huckster, Jane Norris a laundress, and Josephine West (described as Mulatto), all born in Virginia.
