On the 25th day of December 1857, in Davies County, Kentucky, a marriage took place at the home of Mr Henry Reeds. This marriage was acknowledged in Owensboro Kentucky on Mar. 30th 1868.
I usually lead these blog posts with the names of the couple but this one is interesting to me as the original transcriber on familysearch and I would have a debate about the names. They are transcribed as
William Neal and Sophina Reed
but I am wondering if they read
William Reed and Luphnia Reed.
Maybe a descendant will read this and be able to clarify this for us.
In the 1850 Slave Schedule, Henry A Read of District 1, Daviess County, Kentucky is recorded as having 12 enslaved people.
5 Black males ages 50, 47, 42, 25 & 37
1 Mulatto woman aged 28
1 Black woman aged 45
3 Black girls aged 13, 12 & 7
2 Black boys aged 12 & 1
Henry Reed, born in Pennsylvania, is listed as a Millwright in the same year with Nancy A (wife), born in New York and Mercy A, born in New York, William born in Ohio, Ann E born in Ohio, and Junius BA aged 2 born in Kentucky.
In 1860, Henry Reed, Millwright, born Pennsylvania & wife Nancy, born New York, are recorded with William, Ann, Jam & Julia in District 2, Muhlinberg, Kentucky. William Truelove, farmhand, born in Kentucky is also a household member.
