Pierce Butler made a number of attempts to have the enslaved peoples of Butler's Island returned to him or to be compensated for the loss of them. Following are copies of the list provided by him to the then Secretary of State listing the enslaved people by first name and monetary value of each person. The list is dated 1827/8.
