William and Chaney married in 1895 (acc. US Census 1900). Chaney was the mother of 2 children according to the US Federal Census 1900, only one of them was living by 1900. William was a farm labourer. Hannah Robinson, born 1838, was a lodger in their home in 1900. Hannah was a widow and the mother of 6 children.
Although the Census Enumerator in 1900, gave William and Chaney/Chancy Scrapp's marriage as 1895, a marriage certificate for the couple dated Dec. 19th, 1899 has been found, signed by W J Grass, NP ( illegible) JP.
William Elias worshipped in the Oak Grove Methodist Church, Sylvania, Screven County, Georgia which is believed to have been established prior to Emancipation, under a bower. He is buried there, adjacent to the Church.
