In 1920, Dave Branon and his wife Mamie were living in Fork, Lexington with their 2 year old daughter Viola. Both Dave and his wife could read and write though neither had attended school. Their home was rented and they both 'worked out' as farm labourers.
On June 16th, 1920, Dave and Mammie's lives were struck with immeasureable grief when their daughters Ethel and Edna died only 3 weeks after birth. There was no physician present at their deaths so there is no cause of death recorded. In their death certficates we discover that Mammie's name was Mary Martin and that she and Dave were born in Lexington County. Ethel and Edna were buried in St. Paul's Church on June 17th, 1920. The certificate does not identify if this was the Baptist Church or the Wesleyan Church.
By 1940, the family had grown to include Dave Junior age 20, Wade age 18, James T age 10, Martha age 8, Mayole age 6 and Swanee, Dave's wife, age 17.
