Gaylord V Brennan was born in Illinois in 1922. He was the son of Louis G & Edna A Brennan. In 1930, the family were living in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. Both Louis George and Edna were born in Illinois. By 1940 Edna was widowed and she and Gaylord were lodging in the home of Herbert and Ada Cook in North Court Street, Rockford.
A Draft Registration Card for George Louis Brennan 1918 suggests that Louis/George used both his first names interchangeably at different times in his life. His wife is named Edna and he is recorded as self-employed with a peanut vending machine business. George is recorded as 5 foot 10 & one eight inches tall, of stout build with blue eyes and sandy hair.
Louis died on July 29, 1935 according to a transcription of the Illinois, Deaths and Stillbirths Index 1916-1947. This record also tells us that Louis was born on Feb. 22 1880 in Shirland, Illinois. He was only 55 years at the time of his death.
This record of Louis' place of birth gives us a great clue for checking the 1880 US Federal Census, if he was born prior to the census. Imagine my delight when I found Louie aged 3 months living with his parents Martn & Marccella Brennan. Martin was born in Wisconsin and Marcella in New York. All 4 of their parents were born in Ireland!
The transcription of the Illinois, Deaths and Stillbirths Index 1916-1947 came to my aid again giving me the death of Martin C Brennan (birthplace Footville, Wisconsin) on March 21 1933 in Rockford, Winnebago. Husband of Marsella. Martin's father was John Brennan and his mother Mary Cannon, both of whom were born in Ireland.
