The 1901 Census Ireland records John Brennan, a retired farmer, of Granard, Co. Longford living in St. Ignatius Road, Inn's Quay, Dublin. He was living with his wife Marcella and his children;

All of them are recorded as having been born in the Parish of Granard, Co. Longford. The townland is transcribed as Killatona or Kilratona however a quick search reveals no such townland in Longford. The nearest match is the townland of Killasona and is also a possible match for the handwritten Census return! (A timely reminder to self to always check the original document where possible!) It is unusual to see a townland recorded on the Census so I am imagining that John was proud of his homeplace, and very sad to leave it.
By 1911, Marcella Brennan was a Widow and the Head of Household. She was living with her son Joseph, a postman and her daughter Maggie, a dressmaker. Marcella Brennan is recorded as 36 years married and the mother of 15 children of whom 14 are still living in 1911.
I cannot find Michael, Thomas or Cornelius Brennan in the 1911 Census on the first search though this does not mean they aren't there. They may have been recorded by a nickname!
As we draw near to the Centenary, I wonder if Joseph was in the G.P.O. at the time of the Rising.
