The 1911 Census gives us a wonderful picture of my Gilleran great and great great grandparents.
My great grandparents, Michael Gilleran and Ellen Beirne and their five children were living with Michael's parents, John Gilleran and Anne Fox.
John Gilleran of Roadwalk and Anne Fox of Clooncraff (age 18) married in Roscommon RC Church in 1872. The Civil registration record gives only their fathers' names but the Church marriage record transcription (rootsireland) records the following;
Parents of John Gilleran, Patrick Gilleran and Mary Hanly
Parents of Anne Fox, Michael Fox and Margaret Brennan .
John Gilleran was baptised on Feb. 28 1845. His godparents were James Hambrogue and Margaret Brennan. (rootsireland) I have found baptisms for 6 siblings,
Thomas 1833
Patrick 1835
Margaret 1837
James 1840
Michael 1842
William 1847
John Gilleran died in 1920, in the company of his daughter-in-law Ellen.
The 1911 Census gives Anne Fox Gilleran as the mother of 4 children. Baptism record transcripts give us;
Mary Ann born 1873
Michael born 1874
Mary Ann born 1875
Patrick born 1877.
Anne died in 1925 of old age (75 acc. to the Death Record) in the company of her daughter-in-law Ellen.
Ellen Beirne Gilleran was the daughter of Malachy Beirne of Ballyglass, Rahara, Co. Roscommon & Ann Donnelly.
In 1857, Griffith's Valuation records Malachi Byrne as a tenant of Robert H Gunning in Ballyglass, Rahara.
Malachy Byrne married Ann Donnelly in 1854 in Knockcroghery.
Patrick 1855
Brigid 1864
Martin 1867
Timothy 1870
Ellen & Margaret her twin were born in 1873.
